Advice from the experts, look in...

Ok here we go!! I have recently brought a new Audi A4 sport and the first thing I have to do is upgrade the sound system, it is shocking. I am by no means an expert when it comes to car sound systems so I thought I better seek some help. I have done some research, and I have read some of the recommended audio sites for advice. However I am still unsure and I thought I would ask some experts, so here I am.

Ok let me tell you what I am after. The first thing I need is a head unit. I am after one that is good quality but at the same time it must look the business. I appreciate that some of the old alpine units are excellent but I find them too boring and ugly. I was checking out some of the photos you guys uploaded and azbass unit looked awesome. You get the idea. (Oh and I want it to play mp3 cds, I am not bothered about dvd or sat nav)

I have to change the speakers. Here is my first dilemma, do a fork out and buy both front and rear speakers, or do I just go for one or the other. Looking at my car I would prefer just to change the front speakers as it would be easier, plus in my audi, correct me if I am wrong it looks like there is just one big central rear speaker in the parcel shelf. Will I still get good quality sound if I only change the front speakers? (Not bothered about passengers in the back)

I do not want a sub. Is it worth me buying an amp? Some head units do have a built in amp, I guess it depends on whether it is powerful enough to power the new speakers?

Ok sorry for the long post but if you could help me it would be appreciated. So I am after some recommendations on:

1) Head Unit

2) Front Speakers

3) Amp and rear speakers if required?

Looking to spend around £300 ($600) but I would rather pay that bit extra if required.

Cheers!!

Just an FYI - I'm no expert.

I can't make any recommendations on the head unit, as I own an old Alpine and love it.

I can sugguest replacing the front speakers. Pioneer Rev series coaxials seem to be the best coaxials for the money nowadays, so I sugguest taking the well beaten path and picking up a pair. Install them with your new HU, listen to them, sit in the back, listen to it there, generally see what you can get out one pair. If it's not enough, buy rear speakers and install them, you'll sleep better at night knowing you're justified getting rear speakers and didn't just wasteully throw money at the project.

For an amp, a single 2 or 4 channel amp for the front and rear speakers would be a wise investment. You'll get more out of your speakers any way you look at it. Louder, cleaner, lower, etc, etc. Unfortunately, again I haven't done my homework on them so no recommendations. Good bang for buck amp companies are Profile, Power Acoustik (Just don't buy the ugly ones! =), and JBL.

i have the new power acoustik sl4-1000 amp. 4 channels 85wrms @ 4 ohms. is running some boston acoustik 4x6's in the front, they sound great. amp was

$110 shipped from buy.com

you can check the classifieds here there is alot u can find, check the bay u can find whatever u need.

as for headunits. i cruise crutchfield.com, they have in depth pages of all there products. i find what i want, and go someone else and get ie $100 cheaper >=D

I am looking for coax front speakers? Any recommendations mate?

Been looking at some headunits as well and as usual, some of the latest models that are out in the US are not available here yet. Typical!!

Cheers for the advice, i will check the ads section. Cheers for the advice johnson, (scary eyes ;-)

Any coax speaker recommendations, keep them coming!!!
