Do i need a second battery?

Been running my system for a couple months with minor issues (occasuional amp protect mode, gain only about 55-60%) and was wondering if you guys think its worth spending $300 on a XS D3400 or invest the money towards door speakers/headunit. Currently running a Sundown Zv5 18 on a SCV2000D at 1 ohm off my stock battery and a 350 amp excessive amperage alternator. Voltage has no problems while riding playing full tilt always above 13 volts but at idle ive noticed i drop into the 11s with the volume only half way up so it can be kind of annoying having to turn the system all the way down every time i come to a stop. Ive been on the fence between a D3400 and a 80PRS to replace the walmart HU ive got now. Is the battery needed? Aslo another quick question. Is the bolt used to bolt the seats down an acceptible place to ground from the amp if properly cleaned to bare metal?

And a new ground lol I wouldnt ground it there I would go all the way back to battery Neg but if you cant do that at least run it to the vehicle frame if it has one ? What vehicle ?

You might be better off for a better ground location. Your not running much power that I see.

Also is the big 3 done?

Also why is the gain so far up? That could also be another problem linking to the amp going into protect....it's not liking something.

Its a 2003 2 door blazer. I can take a pic of where ive got it grounded tomorrow if it helps

Ok, also I would run another battery if I was you and then you can ground amp on that battery but you would still need to ground that battery too at either the frame or up to front battery neg post. I would try not to let the amp get into the 11s EEEk mine have never below 13.5 . Earlier on in this hobby I burned some amps up on low voltage. Thats a good amp you have but low voltage will kill any of them. I personaly would get an extra battery first because the PRS80 wont do any good if you burn up your amp.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Sorry I missed you got 350 amp alt That will run that amp alone and should even at idle, Boomin is right your ground must **** If it was me i would go buy a long enough piece of gauge ( are you using gauge ) and run it along the frame under the truck up to front and ground it at alt housing , does it have a ground lug on alt housing ? If not bolt it to alt bolt on bracket but you definitely need big three done for sure ! Try that before buying batery. Thats a beast alt you got ! your just not getting all you should from it yet !

Big 3 done all 0 gauge. I set the gain at that level because i felt as if my system isnt loud for what it should be doing. Dudes i know with a set of cheapo 12s seem to be louder than my 18 but i assume its because im tuned at 30hz n their tuned at 35hz.

So the gain is set incorrectly. That's another issue. Your only feeding that sub maybe 1500-1800 watts to a rated 2k sub....we all know that's prob really under rated. So in reallity, something isn't right if you think it's not loud enough.

Got any pics of your set up?

Try the new ground. gotta have power to make power, That alt should do close 200 at idle I think and thats all you could be drawing at 2000 watts unless gains are set to high ? Sounds like a weak ground really

This is what i was thinking. I usually always turn it down so it never drops below 12 just gets annoying having to do so.

Thanks for the help guys. Ill drop some pictures of how ive got it all set up sometime tomorrow. This was my first build ive done on my own so i wouldnt doubt something small has been overlooked. And when i say it isnt loud...its loud...but doesnt seem to thump like my buddies system which is way less quality

Probably a combination of lower tuning, amp not getting power it needs (ground) and gains to high. Remember too are own **** is never loud lol we get used to it ! Mine never seems loud either,152.6 but I still dont think its loud.
