Do component systems really require an amp?

Already have a mono amp for my sub and don't really want to spend much money on 2 6.5" woofers for my back seat..can they just be wired in where the stock speakers were and sound ok? going for complete sq don't really care about spl at all

I don't want or need tweeters unless i have to replace them...i have a single 6.5" blown woofer in my back seat...thought i would be done with my system after i added a sub and amp but it blew this week

So you had a component system in the back seats, from the factory? Does that mean you have some kind of line out converter or something? Or do you have an aftermarket head unit while still using your factory amp?

what's so hard to understand? i have a stock 8 speaker system, premium audio package from GM, that has a single blown 6.5" woofer in the back seat so i need to replace the woofers but don't wanna spend the money to buy an extra amp!

Thanks for not answering a single one of my questions, and then being a condescending douchebag! Have fun with your fail, sir!

To answer your question though, whatever you get will already be amplified, by your stock amplifier.

Please don't raise your voice. If you have a coaxial 6.5" or just a midbass 6.5" without a tweeter, just do a drop in.

Good amplification is important for both, SQ and SPL. In SQ application the amplifier gives you good dynamic range. And for SPL.. again there is no substitute for even more amplification. Most speakers will perform best once you run 50-100watts to them. This is specially important for reproducing the lower frequencies since this is where most power consumption happens. However, I wouldn't spend too much effort on amping the rear speaker. If you want to get the same kind of sound that you used to have, it may be worth it to get just one woofer from the dealer. If you replace the rear speakers with a different brand, replace both woofers. Don't use speakers with coaxially mounted tweeters if you have separate tweeters (in the case, it makes sense to install components).
