sq help

Deadener cuts down on resonances which can cut some of that harshness you get (plus it improves midbass and also reduces rattle and road noise). When you deaden your doors you want to pick up some weatherstripping from Lowes as well. Comes in a 10' roll and costs like $4 and comes in a ton of different sizes. Makes it so easy to seal up stuff like your speaker adapters, door panel, etc.

What head unit and amps are you using? What kind of speakers and how are they installed? Also, what kind of RCAs are you using?

Proper settings needs to be ensured first, then install, then you can address things like external processing and switching equipment.

What's your system setup like? Like Kangaroux mentioned, you should definitely look into processing and deadening if you're after SQ, but depending on your equipment, you may need an upgrade to get really good sound.

Definitely upgrade the head unit first. Look for high voltage preamp outs, 24-bit DAC, the most bands(equalizer) you can get, and if you're seriously after SQ, look for time alignment. But for sure, the head unit needs to be upgraded as soon as possible. That's probably the cause of your bad SQ.

Don't get speakers until you know for sure that you can't fix what they're bad at, through EQing and such from the head unit.
