Do class A/B amps "hit harder" than class D?

Oh, just walk up to that hornet's nest and smack it!

ETA: When it comes to SPL, a RMS watt is a RMS watt. I don't see how class AB over Class D will make a diffence. Now, when it comes to dynamic power, generally a class AB can squeeze out more power for a short burst than a class D amp. The main differences I have noticed regarding output between class D and Class AB is that Class D generally clips harder and faster than class AB AND Class D generally doesn't have as much dynamic output. IMHO, dynamic output won't help you on test tones but it could help you on music.

I am sure that most of us will agree that the first generation class D amps sucked donkey balls. As long as a quality class D amp is set up properly, it is hard to tell the difference! Even this old fart has changed his position on a quality class AB versus a quality class D amp.

Now, if we are talking the full range Alpine PDX series... I still think they sound flat and cold compared to their class AB counterparts!

I heard after you do that if you stand still and hold your breath they won't sting you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif Maybe the op should try //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Sheesh cleansoundz, while you were at it you should have just made a broad, general, blanket statement saying that Class D is easier on the electrical system then class AB without taking actual current draw into consideration.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Gunz4me you are right. I guess I openned up a can of worms. I will admit though that class D amps not run @ 1 ohm especially with today's technology have caught up in sound with the class AB amps.
