Tuning just right?

Every video i see people crank their volume all the way up, but my subs max out at about 25 out of 40 on my headunit, i've tried messing with the gain and such on my amp but it never seems to sound good..what should i try? i want to be able to hear my music other than just bass. much apprecaitation to who can help!

Boost treble and mids from the head unit and turn the bass down on it, and make sure your gain is actually set with a Digital multimeter instead of using the gain as a "volume knob"
