do amps loose power/quality?

I am interested in purchasing a used jl 500/1 amp but I am wondering if amps in general loose power/quality over time and if it would be noticable if I got a used one over a new one.

Nope, the nice thing about curcuit boards is no moving parts, they just work untill they don't work no more.

Cooling fans will wear out though.

I agree with jsloan. However it may appear your amp has lost power after awhile... because you got use(prolly spelled wrong... so blow me lol) to it.

as long as its taken care of it should work just fine for a long time
