Distance of crossover from speaker?

Does it really matter how far it is from your speaker? If so why?

It's of no consequence because the electrical change from adding more speaker wire is not going to make a difference to what you hear. It will not negatively affect anything to have the crossovers in the trunk and run 2 pairs of wires up front, for example.
