dimmer wire on hu

i was helping a friend install a generic hu in his 00 grand cherokee. i dont know what to do with the dimmer wire. the wiring harness that came with the hu didn't have a dimmer wire, and the hu powers on and works fine, just doesnt light up. is there anyway to bypass this? like maybe hook the dimmer wire into the power wire?

if the HU does not have a dimmer wire, then just cap off the dimmer on the factory harness and not use it,

i tried that, but the hu doesn't light up at all. the cd player and radio work fine, but it doesn't light up.

humm. usually if a radio does not have a Ill. or dimmer wire. the unit still lights up. maby a bad deck..

thats what i'm thinking, but he ordered two with the intention of selling them and they are both like it. thing works fine just can't see anything...
