Digital Designs vs. Dc Sound Lab

Whaddup CAF,

I'm in a dilemma. My current setup is an Audioque HDC3 15" on an SaE1200D Amp, and as soon as I turn my head unit up to 24 i start to smell coil and Idk what to do. I've done the big 3, but stock battery and alt in a 2004 Explorer. Since I can't seem to fix my problem I figured I'm gonna upgrade my system all together instead of downgrade.

I'm looking into doing two Digital Design 3500 15'' Woofers. They can handle 1200RMS and 4800 peak.

Also, I'm considering doing DC Sound Lab Level 4 15''s that handle 1000W Rms and 2000W peak.

I've got lots of Cab space in my Explorer giving me plenty of options for a custom box. I'm gonna do the ports in the center of the box.

The price range between the two is about 100$. The DD's are 400 a piece and the DC's are about 300 a piece.

Fairly close in price.

Any insight would be fantastic from supporters of either company.

For an Amp I would love to get the crescendo 3k watt amp, pickup a shuriken battery, and an alternator.

I'm a loyal DD fan but in this case, go DC. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

both are very reputable brands and i only have personal experience with the level 4 which is an excellent sub and i back 100%. that said based on hear-say dd is the better brand i would have to say if you dont mind spending a bit extra go with dd. level 4's have a tendancy to have leads break and ive never heard of this with dd subs

Yeah it's definitely a tough decision.

I'll probably go with the DC since the DD's are fairly similar to the design of the AQ's.

Try something completely fresh.

Would a 3k Watt amp down to 1 ohm be pushin the DC's enough?

i had my lvl 4 on less than 1600 watts and tore two leads so be careful over powering the dc's

Get the upgrade. DC Lvl 4's with level 5 softparts. Hardly more $$ and will take the power easily.

If ya drop to 12's I can sell ya 3 of em for a smoking deal, and you only need a 4th.

Two Lvl 4's will cost ya $100 more than 1 3500 (if you're buying new subs).

That should play a hand in making your decision...

incorrect. The XL has a different/larger motor than the Lvl 4...

lvl 4 motor = 28.5 lbs

XL motor = 50 lbs

well yeah, but that doesn't really affect power handling does it? I'm just trying to give him an example of how the level 5 coils will do on 2200 watts.

Yes motor strength affects power handling. Why do you think you see little motors on low power subs, and massive slugs on the spl subs.....
