different size fuses?

i currently have 1 run of 1/0g wire from my battery to amp that is fused with a 300 amp fuse. i didnt do the big 3 on my jeep yet, but i plan on doing it this week sometime.

would it be a problem if i fused the alternator to battery positive with a 250amp fuse? considering i already have a 300amp fuse inline from the battery to amp? might this cause any problems?

its a mean green alternator and a optima red top, dont know if that matters at all. and ill be doing the big 3 with 1/0g wire.

i dont think it will matter to fuse to the battery and alternator because you will never draw close to 250 amps on a stock alt. now if you have a ho alt, 250 amp would work just as long as your alternator didnt put out more that 250 amps.

its a HO alt. its a mean green. not sure on the exact amp it puts out, but i doubt its over 250. i dont think it actually says on their website how many amps this thing put out though. at least not that i seen.

oh my bad. i think fusing the big 3 is overkill, personally.

thats what ive read as well, but my jeeps almost gone up in flames before. id rather take the extra time and just throw a fuse in there.

edit** not that a fuse alone will save me from a fire, but it could just save me in the long run is waht i mean.

The reason for fusing that wire would be to protect yourself and vehicle from a short. If that wire for some reasons becomes bare, which does happen inside a 200+ degree engine bay, and grounds on any metal surface then it will cause a fire if it is not fused.

250A will be fine.

Also, what amp are you running that you feel 300A is needed? That would be around 600A to blow that fuse, and would damage just about any amplifier.

its memphis wire, pretty beefy wire IMO. it came with a 250 amp fuse, but i switched it out to 300amp when i picked up the sundown.
