difference between amp and sub clipping?

Thanks for the info man. I didn't notice a huge difference between the voltage at 50 and the voltage at tuning (35 in this case).
Hmm surprising. Also to note, if you use any bass boost what-so-ever, the DMM should always be done at the exact frequency the BB boosts at.

I'll just stick to my ears and eyes when gain matching my stereo components, lol. I have not ran over 2500w rms and never had a problem matching everything. I can see if you were competing though and 5% or 10% loss in power might mean the difference in winning or losing by a tenth...but only a meter can distinguish those differences anyway. SPL meters care not about distortion levels.

I'm just not confident in my ability to hear when the clipping starts. Do I just play a tone and listen for any change in sound?

If you are playing a tone and just listening for the clipping, can you also do that with 1k hz tone for setting the mids and highs?

Will you be able to easily hear the clipping just as you do when setting gain for the subs?

If you can tolerate the loudness, which is tough when playing a sine wave since it's annoying as **** and it drives your amplifier and speakers very hard, you will definitely hear when the tone starts to go bad as you raise the gain. I haven't tested it, but Steven Mantz talks about using pink noise to set amplifier gain in the Zed Manual 2012, as seen on page 23, for example.
