Did I blow my amp?

I did this a few times when I first installed my amp. I quickly learned to either A. Take out the fuse by the battery, or B. Take out both fuses in the amp.

It took me like 4 fuses to figure that out. But I never harmed the amp, just a lot of fuses.

Well I guess replacing all the fuses shouldnt hurt. But theres a problem, I cant find any small or normal size 40A fuses, all the car shops dont have them, they have up to 30 and then 40 is this huge monster, I dunno what to do

30s shouldnt hurt, but may cause just a little bit more resistance than the 40, which is no where near noticeable. If the 30s pop then you going to have to find some 40s. go to cartoys or something they should have em if these so called car shops dont have em

when the wires sparked, was the ground connected to the chassis of the amp as well? or was it just the positive?

theres a number of things that could have happened inside because the board is grounded on the heatsink at several places for most amps.. if you hit the heatsink with positive and negative at the same time its possible a charge went reverse through a circuit and killed some components, like a diode possibly, which are only meant to have current go through them one way..

no way to know unless u open it out.

Not sure it was dark and happened so fast, what I think happened(all cables are connected properly, just not to the amp) So basically my power was touching the gold plate screw and the ground touch the power cable, or vice versa, the power touched the ground while the ground was touching the amp. The only damaged I noticed was that it seemed like some of the power(copper) fused onto the ground (silver) cause I could see some copper on it, but ya ill open it up tomorrow and if its all melted then ya, but if everything looks good ill snap a shot if I can, if I dont notice anything. Would a car shop be able to fix it or is it not worth it?

And with the 30a fuses, worst case scenario is the fuse brakes?

anyways, it really sounds nothing more than you blew the fuse near your battery.. but if not, then that sucks, you probly fried the amp.

The fuse near the battery, can I just take it out and replace it without disconnecting anything? Same with the ones in the distribution block?

sure you can no problem, it is suggested to take the fuse out when ever your connecting or disconnecting your power and grounds to the amp

Ususaly fuses in the power wire arnt the normal "small fuses". I think there called Maxi fuses, there pretty large.

NVM I misread. I thought you were asking if the power wire fuse was the same, Sorry

K, well I went to the battery and the power cables fell out of the fuses, so once I got them back in, I pushed them together and the fuses breaks. Ill prob buy one later on today, but I dont think that would be the problem, ill replace the ones at the back to(distribution block) but I mean why would 1 amp work and not the other
