Hey all...thought I would share with you my experience of my first basic sub and amp install today.
I installed it for a chick I know, and overall it took WAY longer than i thought i would.
The equipment was 1 12'' Type R, and A power acoustik amplifier. 4 gauge amp kit was used. The head unit is a Pioneer DEH 4900i...
The RCA and remote turn on wire were the first and by far easiest things I installed....then, i grounded the amp and installed the sub in the box that I made about 2 weeks ago. After that I grounded the amp to a small bolt in the trunk and ran the power wire from the amp to the firewall...here is where the problems come into play.
I had NO WAY of getting the power wire through the firewall...there was 1 grommet but it was too small to fit the wire through. So after a few "training" holes I ended up drilling a hole in the floor of the car instead of the firewall and ran it up through the bottom of the engine bay.
Once again I thought all was going good....but I couldn't be any more wrong. I went to install the inline fuse but it didn't quite fit right when I put it in, so I decided to take it out and try a different fuse holder. Sure enough, i broke the ONLY fuse I had making it look like I wouldn't get this working tonight.
However I decided to take the fuse out of my system and put it into hers. So now I have no thump, and she does. O well, it was an interesting first install and that is the only way I would have had it.
