Design for Tuans Custom 15" sub thats going to get 3800rms Daily from a T30001bd

The BTL is still around. It's getting installed in a 07' Avalanche //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Why not some Aeros? Would take up much less space, and could get away with using alittle less port area. Only problem I would see is the actual length...
i'd go with a rectangle or square port. aeros if you wanna spend more money.
LOL, I just posted that the while you were making your post about it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

(4) 4" aeros at 18" long will get me at 38hz with 50sq.in. of port area for my 4.5 cuft box. The 18" length wont be an issue since the box is 24" deep.

The thing though is that I want to get this box ready by saturday afternoon since thats when we are having a caraudio.com meet. Does anyone know of anyplace that I can get good aeroports in AZ or a place that I can order them from that will get them here by Friday or Sat morning?

I say just go with a rounded slot port. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Even try kerf cutting and do one of the fancy flared slot ports that we are seeing a lot of these days.

Ok so this is the new design, with the curved port using resin, let me know if you think I should change anything...

Box: 34" wide x 15" tall x 22" deep

Port: 4.75" wide x 13.5" tall x 16.5" long

4.2 cuft @ 36hz with 64 sq.in. of port area...

Anyone know how long the resin in the corner will take to cure to the point that its hard enough that I can sand it smooth?

Personally if this is gonna be all spl Id go with fiberglassing all corners or using pvc and rounding all interior corners, resining the box, rounding over that port wall. Just what I would do. I do resin all my boxes though lol
Thnx for info. It's not all SPL, I'm going to use this as a daily listening setup, but with the power involved I want to get this box as strong as possible. I've got a router so I'll definataly round over the port and the rest of the box too. I'm also going to use the PVC as a form to make a curved corner, but is it really needed in all 4 corners? Are the other 3 resin curved cornes just for bracing or does it somehow help with the airflow out of the box?

Since you have alot of experience with resin do you have any hints. I've never used it before. How do you heat it up and whats the point of doing that, also what are you mixing, and what type of resin do I get. Home Depot has some I think?

This is what I plan on trying to do...

I just need to do a lil more research on how to mix the resin and heat it and hopw to pour it. Also need to know how long it takes to cure hard enough to sand.

Thanks!

I would move the sub farther away from the port opening. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

As for the resin in the corners thing, I don't like it. Having resin that thick inside a box building up that much pressure (and flexing/shaking) would lead me to believe that the resin will crack and fall apart over time. If anything, I would use some thin wall PVC and staple/glue them into the corners.

I've heard other people say that too, but what about steve meades box for his (4) 18's, I think he poured resin into each corner.

Anyways- I agree, I'd like to move the woofer. I've allwyas had it centered.

Which direction would you move it? A, B, Cor D?
