I purchased a brand new Optima Yellow top dual purpose battery locally and when I got home to put it in it wasn't charged enough to start the car. Had to jump start it with my wifes car then took it for a little drive to charge it (hell its still running in the parking lot now). Should this be a problem with the battery being deep cycle and all? If it were a red top or regular starting battery I would have taken it right back but arent deep cycle batteries suppose to recover fully from complete discharges?

Deep cycle batterys are supposed to be able to completely recover from a full discharge, so I don't think it would matter if it was charged or not.

Anyone else?

an optima least from what i seen of anytype cant be fully discharged and then recover in fact i will also state i dont know of a battery that would. deep cycles can lose more and be revived more so than a regular battery but in "general" terms dont have a higher rate (fast discharge) of a regular battery. im not an optima fan but i will atleast admit they are alot better than an ac delco or a stock battery and they do often recover better than some hawkers
