If you're planning on adding a sub and don't need something crazy, then grab a nice 4-channel and do as DejaWiz suggested.You could get a Kicker KX650.4 for $170, use the front channels for the comps and bridge the rear channel for a sub, like the CV HED12.2 for $89 shipped.... unless that's still out of your budget.
The JL VR's are very nice. I've had them twice and they sounded excellent.
