Deadening question...

I am about to install my components in my doors, and want to go ahead and deaden the doors now, as opposed to waiting and having to pull things apart again.

I also plan to use a teklite or ensolite pad on the whole outer doorskin, and I'd like to do this all at once.

My goal is to use about 2-3 yards of a foam barrier and about 30-35 sq feet of a mass deadener on the doors and front floorboard.

To help me decide how much deadening and what brand I would need, I read all of the threads that I could find via the search. I tried to limit my reading to those threads using current products, but I read up as much as possible on the general concept. I also read the sound deadening thread in the Speakers subforum.

A few years back, I bought some basic b-quiet (http://www.bquiet.com) and installed it in a past vehicle. I liked the damping- when it stuck. Despite great surface prep and heat-gun&roller application, it still came off in hot weather, sticking to the windows and causing all kinds of problems. HOWEVER, what is still there 5 years later is doing a great job. I have about 12-15 square feet of this stuff.

Also, I went out and bought 30 sq ft of eDead V1 from a local member. (This was before I read about the problems, but I got it for cheap).

My question is, with the bad experience of the bquiet and the bad reputation (in the past) of the eDead V1, should I even bother with this stuff? I cannot tell if eDead has worked out their issues with eDead V1, but I hate to see all of this go to waste. Also, I hope to do my install SOON (this weekend, maybe) and I cannot have in the other products in time. Should I put off my component install another week or so? Should I use the "old" product on the floor and trunk, but use "newer" products for the doors?

Regarding the specific choices for the door deadener, I'd prefer to order everything from one source. eDead V1SE2 is cheaper than RAAMmat or Second Skin, and their foam is 1/4" (v. RAAMmat's 1/8") and it is pre-adhesived. However, the deadener (eDeadV1SE2) gets mixed reviews in search. I cannot tell if the complaints were pre-butyl, or post. Also, I am waiting on a quote for ensolite and BXT from Rick. Second Skin is highly recommended, but unless there is hidden forum pricing, it is a LOT more costly than either other option.

My frustration here is that I am likely only keeping the car for about another year, and deadening is the one part of audio that you CAN'T take with you...

I have used the eDead V1SE and I know someone who has used V1SE2 and I can tell you that the majority of the complaints with eDead V1SE2 were from pre-butyl. Then new versions are fantastic and I have about 100 Sq. Ft of V1SE in my car and it has done wonders. I really enjoy this product from an ease to install prospective. The newer versions are even better and the installation of these new products are extremely easy. If you have the forum discount I would buy the V1SE2 eDead. put 2 layers on and for the door skin you can get the V4 Teklite which is great too. If you are only looking to keep the car for another year I would use what you have and not spend the money on new stuff. Like you said you can't take it with you when you strip the system. The eDead V1 will be better than nothing and you already have it.

I don't know for sure if the eDead that I already have is asphalt or butyl. Is there a way to tell by looking or smelling it?

the 30 sq ft that I have SHOULD be enough for a basig door install, and I would like to use the bquiet on my firewall, with a layer of foam on top of it. If I don't use adhesive on the foam (since it will b eunder the carpet) I suppose I could take it with me.

Butyl has NO ODOR, is non toxic and will not liquify with heat.

If you use a heat gun on it, it will stay solid. It will get soft, even gooey, but it will not liquify.

If it does liquify then it is not butyl, or perhaps is not 100% butyl. Some companys sell mats they claim as being butyl and have asphalt filler to make it cheaper.

If it melts, some part of it is asphalt.
