Deadening and CCF in the Hatch

Figured since Ive never created my own thread in here now would be a good time to do so. Yesterday I had some time finally to rip my hatch apart. For those who dont know I drive an 08 Caliber SE and the hatch is notoriously noisy. It rattles none stop even on a smooth road. Thats why I have 27 sq ft of CCF and another 13 sq ft of SS Damp Pro in my garage.

The CCF I used is a 3/8".

While I was in there I tightened up the clips so they hold the trim pieces as tight to the metal as possible.

Here you can see the basic ideas of the process. I got in a grove and forgot to take pictures of the last pieces. Over all it took about 2 hours to disassemble, deaden, spray, apply CCF, and reassemble. Pretty sure I added about 15 pounds to the hatch area during the whole thing.

To take apart the hatch you remove the two screws from the bottom of the lift gate near the handle to pull the hatch closed. Then you just pry off the top piece, then the side pieces, and then finally the bottom half comes off. They are all connected via metal retaining clips.

Here is everything removed:

This is the bottom piece before I got to work. I removed the factory matting there. Applied my deadener, applied my CCF, and then reapplied the factory matting.

same with my celica. i'd like to know the name of a good vendor..

AT is going to work on a foam I do believe, but first the MLV. AT is the best deadener for the money. Instead of the ccf you used for panels, look into Raamats Ensolite. It is cheaper than ccf, and is peel and stick so no spray needed, and will eliminate 90% of panel rattles.

Guaranteed its not even close to as cheap as the CFF I have or up to the same specs as the Second Skin Overkill Pro.

Which ones? I didnt fill any of them but there are some in the A Pillar that are filled from the factory.
Well all of them I guess. Anyone who has foamed the hollow cavities can tell you it is a world of difference. Front has factory foam because they know it works wonders. I use to work for an insulation company. We used a 2 part foam for sealing up houses. I been using that as I can drive up and snag some:)

Giant Leap Rocketry sells something similiar. I did my entire mustang with two large cans. It expands a shitload. About 4 times the amount you mix up.

No, but LLP is not made to go behind sail panels either. It is like $15 a yard for ensolite. if you get ccf for that cheap I am surprised.
Never removed the sail panel. I confused LLP with Overkill. The blue stuff I have is the same as the Overkill Pro. I paid about $5 a sheet. 27 sq ft for $15.
