DC Level 5 18" vs. RD Audio Alpha 18"

I've been talking to RD and they can give me a good deal and seem like a good group of guys. I'm thinking of running Alpha v2 18"s for my next step, and was wandering how these would match up against the Level 5 18"s. This will be in an 03 Expedition, and I'm leaning more toward sql to spl rather than pure sq setup.

All suggestions appreciated.

I know the LVL-5 is a very loud woofer.

Do you have accurate BL and RE figures on the Alpha 18 to compare motor strength? How about MMS figures? These can give you a good idea on SPL potential.

Ill go check all that out. I've been out looking for a good 18" sub for a while and wanna make sure i know all my options before i make a decision.

Ive always been under the impression that the level 5 was more comparable with an rd heavyweight //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif maybe Im wrong though

I'm thinking the same thing as well.

I'd figure the Level 4 be more comparable to the Alpha.. however I could be wrong

Agreed..

My friend Andrew has 3 18" DC LvL 5's in his Silverado in a wall...and they are ****ing massive and overbuilt in every possible way....in the category with the Heavyweight..//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

He's got a single SAZ 3000 on each one and its ungodly loud..burping 158's@45Hz..now he's got 2 SAZ 3000D's per 18" and is putting it together right now.

The Alpha is a nice woofer..don't get me wrong, but IMHO, I think the Level 5 is a tad ahead of it.. but would run neck and neck with the Heavyweight.. I'm figuring it more comparable to the DC Level 4 line of woofers..

This is what I would guess, but I have haven't heard either one. I, however, think the Alpha is really the definitive SQL sub. I love the shit out of my 10s" and they are very musical, get really loud and really low. Don't let the f/s fool you either on the Alphas. Mine are in a 34 hz tuned box and hit a 28-30 hz tone like nothing. I would actually tune them to 35-36 if I had to build another box for them. They can take 2000 daily, I think, if you know what you're doing. I'm throwing about 1600 each to mine and they seem to want more.

I was just going on the power handling of each, 2000rms.

I have seen others comparing the hw and lvl 5, but i saw on each company's site that the alpha and lvl 5 take 2000rms, so i thought id compare them.
dc underrates the power handling of their subs significantly. my level 4 takes 1500 all day, its rated at 1000. itll take 2000 for a couple of songs, but it get warm soon after. Ive read many places where people are feeding the level 5s much more than 2000. Ive always been told that the alpha is a **** good sql sub. level 5 though is definantly spl
