DC Level 3 handling?

misfit i think you need to get off your high horse on this one.it seems through pure experiences from random people that this is a known thing with breaking sdcs in properly.Ive seen multiple post about this.
Installing a subwoofer and using it like you've got some sense will "break it in" just fine. This is an undeniable fact that has nothing to do with being on a high horse...

A standard lvl 3 can safely run 800rms to it with the right box and clean power I've seen as much as 1k musically. Now if you want to give it more power get the lvl 4 softparts.

As far as the kid who couldnt put 1500 to it with the lvl 4 softparts. Its all in the signal if its clean I've put as much as 2k to it before finding mechanical limits.

Thank you.

he said he had a mb quart discuss 1500 on it, and also had the amp with pictures for sell so that was the amp he used.

so if the discuss doesnt put out clean power, why does everyone love them on here?

His gains were probably set incorrectly.

They do put out clean power. Things like h/u settings, bass boost, gains cranked etc.. all effect the cleanliness of the signal. This is called a clipped signal. No matter what sub, coil combo you use if the signal is dirty it will kill the sub and make it stink.

Why even post this thread if all you're going to do is discount what everyone says to you?

Childish, why not just make a thread that says "hey guys I've got a dc lvl 3 and im gonna run 1100 rms to it, brb while i blow it up."

well now that having sex with enclosures and giving ourselves prostate exams have some how came out of this. I will go ahead and take it that no one has given a Level 3 1100rms
I thought that was epic. I don't care what you guys think. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

On MUSIC you can push a sub a little beyond rated RMS regardless of brand/model. How far you push it depends on how clean of a signal, and the construction of the particular sub you're testing. The "nominal" rating on speakers is the musical rating. The RMS is a test tone rating or "worst case scenario" type rating that will conservatively operate the speaker without overheating on a test tone or full DC signal.

If you push a sub with test tones or a clipped signal beyond its RMS rating, you can quickly overheat the coils and blow a sub. I've seen a DC tear a surround in competition, but that could have been the fault of who coned it or what material they used. It didn't burn the coils even though the surround was flapping around.

Push it till gets stinky and back off a little bit. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

i know all that, but idk i would guess someone will thousands of posts, like 20 more refs than me, researched and had all good gear, would know how to set gains and not use bass boost.

im not gonna take up for the guy i didnt know him, just kinda sad if he coulndt set it up right

Buy/use however much power you can afford. Either you'll need it, or you won't, but you'll always have it in case you do. In a ported box you're more than likely going to reach mechanical limits before thermal limits, so you'll only really need to worry about tearing the sub apart mechanically. Just keep an eye on them and make sure you're not damaging them.
