Dayton Titanic 12"

Titanic 1200 = Great Sub

I had one for quite a while in my car... these play LOW. And by low, I mean you can get an F3 of 30Hz sealed... which many subs barely get ported. It is also quite accurate for a woofer in it's price range, I really liked mine.

Down side... 3 ft^3 sealed per woofer box volume to get a good alignment. I did one in 1 ft^3 and the SQ was lacking... you could possibly go as low as 2 ft^3 stuffed with 3 lbs of polyfill if you have to.

It takes VERY little power to hit x-max with these drivers, I could get mine to x-max with 150-watts in 3 ft^3 sealed. This isn't bad... it's very efficient, but you have to be careful about bottoming it out with a large amp.

FYI, they 5 year warranty is great. Had a problem with mine once, had a new driver in my hands in about a week.

cough,I have no idea what u just said but sounds good to me

Right now, i found the following:

Dayton 1200 12"sub for $129 and

Dayton 1202 12" sub for $128.77.

Seems the prices just went up from last night at partsexpress.com

Which one or are there better ones for the money right now?
I don't have any experience with the 1202, but it has difference design goals. It won't go as low, but it requires a much smaller box than the 1200 does. Of course there is a reason they still make the 1200 Titanic, and that is because it is their "Audiophile" driver -- and I agree, it's a great sounding sub.

* Do you like massive low-end or do you prefer a flatter response?

1200 = massive low-end

1202 = flatter in-car response

* How much room to you have available?

1200 = large sealed box

1202 = smaller sealed box

* How much power do you have?

1200 = less power handling

1202 = more power handling

I'll have around 400w RMS for the sub. I guess i like a linear response- i'm guessing u mean balanced with proportion as the volume goes down and up instead of changing of "bassiness" with volume?
400 RMS is quite a bit for either sub, be careful with your gains.

By linear response I mean all frequencies having equal loudness. The Titanic 1200 will have a bump in frequency response really deep down... which most people tend to like. But many prefer a more linear response.
