dashboard speaker placement? - Horizontal speaker pods?

I have read some webpages stating placing speakers on the dashboard is not good(I'm assuming they are talking about placement aiming at the front windshield and reflecting like crazy).

At the same time I have read it is not a bad idea to place tweeters on the dashboard. This is the basis of CDT audio upstage series.

I have a 2004 F-150 and was thinking it might be good to place a pair of 5" component speakers there. I already have a pair of Clif Designs 5" components but these may be too big. Perhaps a 4" woofer or even a smaller. I saw a Tang Bang 2"x3" 4ohm speaker at Parts Express with pretty good specs that is really low profile.

Fortunately I have a very flat level dashboard. I was thinking about making low profile speaker pods extending horizontally on the dash board facing the driver/passenger seat. I would place the woofer and tweeter in a horizontal pattern to preven obscuring the view. Hopefully enough volume can be made in the pods. I will make them with fiberglass to make the elegant curves.

I will probably try to make the pods very heavy and very well dampened to prevent the dash from vibrating like crazy at higher volumes.

With the appropriate headunit with time correction(Eclipse, Alpine) This could possible work

I'm doing the same thing in my '91 GMC using 4" Peerless Exclusives, similiar to this install (he was using 3" Trius drivers):

That's pretty much what I was thinking! Another idea would be to use 3" woofers(usually8 ohm), get two of them so they can be run at 2 ohms and have them pointing much more at the passengers than the placement I saw in the previous messages links.

Any thoughts?????

2 single 8ohm vcs = 4ohms not 2
