dang problem

I am 16 and have been looking for a job for about 3 months so i finally got one at krystal and they have to have a 1.copie of driver license(got that) 2. paper signed by parents(got that) 3. copie of birth certificate(got that) 4 social security card(thats the problem) my house caught on fire about six moths ago and it got fried so i dont have that and the manager said i could go to the social security office and apply for a card and that would give me a receipt so i did and they gave me a paper but at the bottom it says "This printout does not verify your right to work in the united states" so i have to go tommorow at 3 oclock and take all that stuff and if everything goes through then i can work for a couple of hours to get the run down on how to work everything so if anybody knows anyhting about social security or about my problem please help.

Just get rid of your social security number and stuff. Then when someone asks you for it, you can be like "no I dont have one" and then they feel stupid when you whip out a card stating that you are a resident of the USA, even though you dont have a SS#.

Social Security is just an excuse for the government to label people with numbers. It doesn't really serve any other purpose... especially for us teenagers. The benefits will be gone by then. :-D

You can file for a new Social Security Card. Just contact your local Social Security Service, they'll hook you right up.

if i am not mistaken you only need 3 things to work for a company if you are under 18. Working papers and 2 forms of ID (drivers license, birth certifacte or social security card). I do believe that is the same with all businesses perhaps your future boss is..a prick? I got hired at my job without a social security card when i was 16. For that matter I don't even have one, my mother last all of them years ago. Haven't ever needed it as long as I have had other forms of ID....even a passport would work if you have that.

But since this woman is being a psychopath i guess the only thing that you can do is wait til you get your SSC. Or possibly ask her if you could use a passport instead if you have that.

seems to me that perhaps you should look into finding another job regardless, doesn't seem like the type of place that I would want to work for, or the type of people that i would want to work for....

I guess she is a witch cause she said i had to have it before i can do anything and i have a copy of driverlicense, birth certificate, and work papers but she said i have to have a card and i dotn have a passport but she probably wouldnt take it.

i just talked to my boyfriend who also happens to be my boss. He said that to fill out I-9 papers you only need 2 forms of ID, that's what is requried by the government. Most places only ask for two forms of ID, unless they are very concerned about illegal immigrants. But you live in TN...so I am doubting there are very many immigrants to begin with, no offense

So my guess is your future boss is a witch. Go find another job. At 16 you won't find any well paying job. So just look around some more, you're only16 don't worry about it. You'll find a decent job eventually.

I lost my SS card and birth certificate a couple years ago, and it took over a month to get the replacements. Now I carry around two PA picture IDs (incl. drivers license) and my SS card. I have talked to some of my friends that work at different places and they didnt have to have one either so if she takes the paper i got from the social security office then i will work there just long enough to find a diffirent job and if she dont take it then forget it she can hire sombody else

To work in the United States under the age of 18 you must have a completed I-9 (not all businesses do this, but with terrorism the gov't is getting more strict) and working papers. To fill out an I-9 you can use just about anything if you are a minor. Even a report card will work. It may be your employers Company policy to have a social security card to verify the SSN you give them on your W-2 and application (if permissible). But, a social security card is not needed technically to get a job. She can still hire you without it unless it is company policy.. however, unless you were hired under that agreement she can't hold you to it.

Since you are under 18 legally the only reason your parents would have to sign something is if you would be working past federal minor work laws.. IE they want you to work up till 11:00pm on schoolnights and 12am on non school nights.

If you have provided a drivers license all you technically need to show now is a birth certificate or social security card. As long as you have your birth certificate they should hire you. If you were born in another country or are here on temp/perm basis, any paperwork showing that would work as well for a second id.

This lady either needs to learn the laws of hiring or loosen up a bit, because it is not as strict as she is making it. I would never make an employee of mine run around in circles like this over a friggin I-9 form. Especially when two-thirds the businesses in the country do not even require employees to fill them out.
