first off is it needed in a sealed enclosure? I heard that polyfill should be put in the enclosure. why is this needed? Also should a material like dynamat be used on the inside walls of the enclosure? is it needed with all sealed enclosures?

if polly fill should be used..how do I know how much of it should be used?

Polyfill is like a drug for sealed enclosures. It will create the small sealed enclosure to sound like you got a big box. Recommend for small sealed enclosure and not recommend for ported enclosures. It is your decision if you want to include polyfill in your sealed enclosure. But i heard if you have a sealed enclosure that is quite small, and cannot make it bigger because of space limitations, then add polyfill. That's my 2 cents.

sorry to jack this but -- polyfill would only help in a SMALL sealed enclosure? i was thinking of trying some in my box, but is there really a point? 2.5ft^3 sealed with a 15" mag.

polyfill i used to slow down the sound waves inside of the enclosure....this tricks the sub into behaving as it would in a slightly larger enclosure...try it, its not that expensive...use different amounts to see how it affects the sound
