CVX10 to replace CVR10

Hi all,

I currently have a sealed enclosure housing 2 Kicker CVR10 2-ohm subs in seperate chambers. I believe each is getting 1.25cft of air space.

I'm considering moving up to 2 CVX10 2-ohm subs.

Can I use the same box with the new CVX10's?

Thanks,

Rav

Just port the CVR 10's and see how you like that, rather then spending all the extra $$ on new subs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

They are ok, but I think I want a bit more kick.

The issue I have with porting the current box is that I have it loaded in the trunk of my car. The only way the sound comes through to the cabin is via a ski port in the backseat. Right now both subs fire as close to the ski port as possible. If I port the box the port will only fire into the trunk, not producing much more audible sound in the cabin.

Plus I don't know how to port the existing box!

Well, you wouldn't want to port the existing enclosure but rather build a new one.

Having the subs fire as close to the ski port may not be the best thing to do. Having the ski port open is a good idea to allow bass into the cabin but you would probably be best off trying a new enclosure.

By wanting more "kick," do you mean you want them to be louder?

don't get me wrong the cvr's sound good, but I kinda want to feel kick drums a bit more.

I'm currently running a Kicker zx400.1 to both the cvr10's which are 2-ohm.

I'm considering going with a zx750.1 if I move up to the cvx10's.

Having to pay for a new box already will be a pain, I've already spent quite a bit on just the box.

Build a new box for the CVRs...im telling you, it will get you what you need. Also dont be afraid to throw a little bit of power at them, I have run a CVR 15 just for shits and giggles on 1200 watts before...Actually took it pretty well, considering its RMS is less than half of that. Always try the cheaper rout first, it will save you in the long run.

Maybe I misunderstood, do you have your 10 currently firing forward? If this is the case, you may be getting some cancellation within the trunk causing issues with output. If this is the case, turn the box around. You may be able to solve your issue with this fix.

Yes. I currently have the subs firing forward into the cabin through the ski port.

The problem with facing the subs to the back of the trunk is that I had the installers build a false wall basically to cover the amp and enclosure. I didn't want anything to be seen from the back of the car when the trunk is open.

If I turn the enclosure around and still have the false wall in place the subs will fire directly against the false wall and I assume would be bad, I may be wrong.

What is your LP filter set at on the sub amp? Kick drums are in the range of about 45-170 Hz with skin tone and roll off, so if you have your LP filter set at around 50-70 Hz, you're likely not going to get what you want from subs. You may want to think about spending the money on a good set of component speakers for the fronts.
