Cutting through the back seat to the trunk?

Hey guys i have a 2000 grand marquis. I was wondering if there would be any benefits in cutting through the arm rest area in the back seat to the trunk? the seats themselves are pretty light, and theres a very thin layer or sheet metal-like dividing the seat from the actual trunk. This layer has two square openinngs that are prety big, but i was curious to know if there are any benefits in cutting a hole through the thin metal and through the seat? It would only be about 1 foot tall and 1/2 wide. thanks for the input

I had a couple Lincolns with similar metal between backseat and trunk. You will get a noticeable gain in output from the trunk by removing as much as you dare.
Have you tried this? I was actually thinking about just cutting through the arm rest area in the back seat.... Not a big hole, but the guy who works at a shop said there would be a big difference just by cutting that much. This just had me wondering...ill upload pics in a bit to describe my scenario better

if you cut it, make sure there is metal left, that is structurally important for the car, you could cut it out and reinforce it. but without a blow thru it wont help alot
Blow thru? Huh? At the risk of sounding noobish ( i am) what do you mean? Also, what do you mean by the deck thing? Thanks

this is where the port would be

just be careful using a small hole, it could actually turn your setup into a 4th or 6th order with possibly bad results.
really? in which way? my main concern was that i would just be wasting money in fabric/stitching/tool rental, but this makes me think. i would rather opt out if the difference was not going to be significant in a positive way. thanks

if you mean in what way as in turning it into a bandpass is the whole that you cut will act as the port for the front chamber and your sub box will act as the rear.
and it could have bad effects on your tuning.
Oooh i think i understand. which direction should i head with my current options? As you can see, i dont know much about any of this, but i googled it and i still dont quite get it lol anyhow, would you reccomend i do this? My current setup is 2 l7 15s powered by a kx 1200.1 in a ported box. I didnt build the box, so it may not be built to specs.

You would be better off cutting a larger hole through the rear decklid. Then putting new fabric down over the top so it looks stock. You can cut out a fair amount without jeopardizing the structural integrity. Last time I gained 2dB on the meter (keep in mind if your competing in a trunk class many organizations disallow cutting out factory metal, but for daily usage you will gain quite a bit.

Cut a hole in what point? I have never heard or seen this, please explain further. Thanks
