Customizable Laptop Question

So I'm in the market for a new laptop, but I don't necessarily want a branded one (dell, hp, toshiba, etc.)

I'm looking for a website that makes custom ones, for instance, ibuypower.com. I'd use them (my friend led me to them) but I researched them and apparently their customer service is horrible.

So is their a website like that, that you guys have used for your laptops? or is their a website that sells barebones+ all the components i need to build one myself?

The market is not out there right now to build your own laptop. There might be a few companies, but mainly you will need to have a branded one.

It is pretty uncommon, and I don't think you get very good warranties on laptop builds.

well dell/hp all those companies don't all have what i want. Plus i don't want to pay 500 dollars for them to install ram or anything like that.

I have no problem adding ram, but they just don't have all the options I want.

What you are looking for in a laptop might not exist right now. Because laptops are so compact, there are no standards like there are for desktop PC's. You can't just peice a laptop together. It basically has to come from a large manufacturer the way you want it.

What do you want that you can't find?

well not necessarily what i can't find. I want a 7200rpm drive and 4gb of ram, but i'm not willing to pay the gay prices they give me. I'd also like more choices at to a video card. I want dedicated but I want to be able to chose.

i figure if i'm going to switch out all that, I might as well find a totally customizable one.

That is the crapy thing about laptops. The customization is just not there yet. At least not for decent prices.

I need a laptop, a desktop won't do.

The only thing I really can find is hard drives ( i want a 7200rpm one) and ram (i want 4GB, just so it will last longer).

You are wanting top of the line technology in a laptop but you don't want to pay for it.
Sorry do0d. Either go desktop, lower your specs, or pay.

i don't want it to be top of the line and i am willing to pay for it.

I'm just not going to pay for them to put it in if they charge me 500 dollars to put in 4gb when I can do it for less then 100.
