Custom Fiberglass Progress Thread: check it out

"...your killin me smalls! ...pics, pics, pics, pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gawd I want to start my own projects! I love this car and the ideas you are incorporating into it!!

innapropriate maybe, but...questions.... I have three things to do in may car and need a suggestion on which to start first, as a noob to fiberglass (not construction). I want to re-do my door pods, the rear deck (with angled mids) and a wheel well dual sub 'box.'

I have been told the wheel well install would be the easiest to start with because of its size and forgiveness. I am teaching myself to fiberglass and this has by far been the most informational (and instrumental in my desire to create my own) post I have found anywhere on caraudio.com!!! Thank you SOOOO MUCH for sharing your experience with us!

I hope to do the same. (((just get more pics! LOL!)))

thanks alot reneeb...glad i could help...i would agree the wheel well box would be the eisest by far, onbly because with the door panels you would be workin with accetate to strip the protective coating off...and the rear deck u have just alot of little annoyances to deal with (i.e. seatbelts...)

gl with you project and PM me if u have any mor equestions //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Hey how did you stick the fleece to your Mitsubishi symbol? I usually use 3M spray adhesive, but then if u soak the fleece with resin it tends to come loose. Is there another way?

alright...for all teh actuall fiberglassers that are watching this thread im sorry...but i used //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blackeye.gif.66a1670f5aaf7f406e783a63e3387dc5.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif hot glue:uhoh: //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blackeye.gif.66a1670f5aaf7f406e783a63e3387dc5.gif

but beofre u butcher the hell outa me let me explain HOW i did it...because hot glue goes VERY WRONG for most people...but teh approach i took was to glue it...then resin everything except where i glued...then making the shape hard...then i resined over teh glued areas...letting the glue release...

Nothing wrong with hot glue , just make sure you get the hot melt kind . The crap that melts at lower temperatures , that happen to be right around the temperature the resin reaches during curing, sucks . I use the hi temp melt quite frequently for mounting rings and such //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

heeeell no. too much work for me. I'm itching to get back under the hood as it is //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Kicks, rear shelf, and sub box will all be fiberglass. Next time I build anything interior out of fiberglass, I want to buy a fiberglass dash and blend it into a console running down the middle of the car... that sh!t is a lot of work though, and won't be happening for quite some time :p

Edit: Awww ****, I thought this was a different thread. NM!
