Custom Center Console Ported Box Help PICS

First post and it's a good sized one. I am no stranger to sub boxes and fiberglass. Here is the run down:

1. Made an integrated center console sub box to fit an 8" sub and I want it to thump so I made it as a ported box. I do not have a lot of familiarity working with vented enclosures.

2. You can see that the box is a square with the bottom back corner forty-fived off to fit to the car body.

3. Port: Precision Port, 2" diameter and 8 5/8" from lip to lip in length

4. Sub: Infinity Reference Ref860w SVC

5. The sub sits 2.5" from the bottom edge of the 45deg up slope in the box

6. I have estimated the Volume of the box at .68ft3 +/- .05ft3

7. I have installed the sub and port to test and I am getting a lot of Air movement sound instead of clean deep bass hits.

I am thinking it maybe a sub issue and want to change sub to the shallower JBL GTO804.

You can see all my measurements in the drawing photos and PLEASE ask any questions you may have the sub is firing towards the rear seats and the back of the cab is fairly open to the elements.

My guess is (and this is in fact a guess...I don't have enough knowledge to give a definite solution) that it's an issue with the enclosure. Maybe not enough volume or not enough port area. You may want to try it sealed and see how it sounds. I don't think that's enough space for a decent vented enclosure, but I could be wrong. I'd wait for some veteran advice. In the meantime, you could seal off the port opening and try it that way.

I Use a center console sub enclosure, and the biggest problem I had was the sub was too close to me, and I can really hear the sub movement. It's just not enough room for the bass propagate. When I switched the sub enclosure from my Ram 1500 console, and into my wives rear SUV compartment (same enclosure), the bass was much more pronounced, full and louder! Changing where the sub is located on your enclosure (firing it down) might be a good thing to try.

A sub that is more shallow will NOT solve your problem. The enclosure is lacking enough volume and/or port area. If you are hearing a lot of air movement (port noise), you need a larger port. With such a small enclosure, don't get your hopes up as far as output.

I had an SA8V2 in a ported box (less than .5 cubes) with a 2" aeroport because of space reasons. To compensate for the small volume and port area, I made the port extremely long. It was slightly less than 5 feet in length, lol. It got really low too

My reasoning behind a shallower sub is that by using one, the space taken up by the sub would be less and the magnet would not be so close to the back of the box (about 1" of space now). The box currently has ~.68 cubic ft of space in it and the sub I have (infinity ref. 8") requires .66 cubic feet. The port was tuned via precision port's web calculator and cross checked with another calculator. Is that the wrong logic?

1" of clearance from the back is fine. Since you have an aeroport, play around with the length until you're happy with its response. You may still need a larger diameter of tube to reduce port noise though. I'm not sure you have enough port area for that sub
