Look at where the Japaneese set up plants here. It dam sure is not in areas that are union friendly.
BTW, the jobs are still good jobs. You just don't have all the insanity of the UAW demands.

I spoke with a guy who used to have an independent equipment maintenance company in Michigan. Each year his company would perform maintenance on some of the machinery for one of the auto companies over the 4th of July weekend.

According to this guy, the union contract required the company to have 3 union employees on the clock for every employee who there working for an independent contractor. In addition, the union employees were each paid 3x their normal rate because it was a holiday. None of them, however, were actually needed for the work. So, they just played cards, riding the clock, while the independents were doing the work.

That does not inspire me to open my pocketbook to help those people.

I despise the seniority is king mentality of it too along with this BS.

The plants are completely shutdown the first two weeks of July to maintain the machines and switch over to the new model year. No hourly employees work the first two weeks of July, and the big 3 hasn't given out overtime since the mid 90's.

I know for a fact that is not representative of all Unions...the ones here make 3x time on holidays...not govt, but contractors.

The only thing it is representative of is T defending the unions regardless of the facts.

Listen, my dumbtastic live with Cheer leading Vietnamese GF in HS walked into a line job thanks to her dad working at Ford.

It doesn't take skill to be "qualified" for. Hence why it is unskilled labor.

The slant I'm taking is that a lack of a union would free up those jobs to the entire workforce thus the retards being protected by the union get replaced by skilled laborours that are worth more thus get paid more.

Well, he didn't say when he was there. But your statement that they were closed does give credibility to this guy's story.

FWIW, it's M&A analysts....that work is tough.

They do get free food though...and a place to sleep at work. Just so they don't leave. Of course this is the lowest of the low people make those salaries.
