well last night i was talking to a guy who was telling me that he has 11,000 dollars of equipment in a 06 civic....with that said he also added that it sounded better then anybody elses in town.

ill break it down to what he has.

clarion touchscreen[not the monitor buck the high end deck]

focal mid's[expensive high end one's]

focal 6x9's in rear

pg ti amp for mids

jl 13w7 in a nice ported fiberglass enclosure

jl 1000.1 amp

2 strands of jl 4 awg wire

the system looked nice as hell. so he let me take a listen. so i was waiting for him to turn it up. at low levels it did sound good but holy crap when he turned it up it sounded worse then my 250 dollar system in my sig. the mids were distorting so bad it was pathetic and the sub didnt get loud what so ever. it just sounded like total crap. i couldnt believe it. and to beat it all he look's at me smiling and say's that's the sh*t aint it. i smiled and said would you like to hear mine and he laughs and says sure. {he already knows what i have because i told him.}

i turn mine on and turn it up and it is clean{i also have the amp for my sub xtremely low.} he says that isnt loud at all but it sounds a lot cleaner. i went into the back and turned up the gains to about 1/3. and i had atleast 3 times the output he had with cheap 300 rms subs being fed 150- 200 rms each.

morel of the story, his system was destroyed by his install. all that equip. gone to waste because he has no clue what to do with good equipment. local shop did all this. i was shocked that they could do such a crappy job and stay in business

there is always that guy that is a sucker for expensive stuff but no real world knowledge of audio and how it should sound. the real messed up part is he will eventually blow his equipment and it will screw his warranty due to failure of proper use due to fried coils and the amp's clipping all day long

i wish more people knew how important the install is. Brand name means nothing if you don't install it correctly. My girlfriend has a system in her Saturn I built using Dual , Boss, and Pyle crap... a whole 100 dollars worth of stuff off ebay.. took hours to do the install right and it sounds not bad at all. A lot better than I expected. Loud and clear. Its all in the install.

when you guys say its all the install what exactly do you mean? take the time to make good connections, proper grounding, running the rcas down the other side of the car. making sure everything is solid when you put speakers in and what else?

You should add... monitoing the output of the RCA's to make sure there not clipping (tunig to a point at which they do not), at the same time correctly setting gain, crossing over correctly, box design and runing the correct load to the amps.

proper size sub enclosure, gains set correctly, mids and highs put in a good location, mids, highs and subs all crossed at a good point, proper size power and ground, good rca's. good head unit. etc
