COURT! Anyone been for serious charges? Got first date comin up, no lawyer

i was a total moron when i was young, so i've seen my share of court rooms. if you are guilty as all hell, and they know it, i see no problem with using the public defender to get a decent plea deal. if there is any doubt at all about whether you are guilty, find a good attorney. when i say doubt as to whether you are guilty, you need to guage what the courts think is guilty as opposed to what you, your friends or any of us on the forum think is guilty. for example, you don't have to commit a burglary to get found guilty of burglary. you are obligated to remove yourself from any illegal situation immediately or you are guilty by association. too bad you're not an illegal mexican. you could plea almost anything down to agricultural trespass and self-deportation.

I did two weeks but that was because of a violation after i had been on probation.

My lawyer was about $2500, but that was because he's like #1 on my speed dial. I think my family and I have went to him a few times or so. Expect somewhere in that range for a lawyer worth anything.

that's a good price for a decent lawyer. people need to guage when to use that much money on a good lawyer. i got caught selling weed twice in a month (caught selling while on bond for selling). i spent 12,000 on an attorney. sentenced to 7.5 years. waste of money. probably would have got an even 8 with a pubic pretender.

expect at least $2500 +. thats what i paid for mine with lesser charges.

Total my court costs and fees I encountered through the terms of my probation equated out to ~$2500-3000. In my case I opted not to get a lawyer since I figured whatever would get knocked off I would pay the lawyer for, and I would have spent even more money if I got one.

However, in the OP's case I think a lawyer is a good idea.

Who butchers that one? You're right, the pretender could have been in his sleep and got a better sentence. Did you have prior arrests on record?

I wish I had an attorney in my pocket like that one^^^ //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

The three attorneys I work for mainly handle defense litigation with large corporations, mostly motor home cases, so I dont think they would ever be able to handle a case if I was to get involved in something.

However, they have all the advice in the world //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Those guys know how to handle serious $ and scare people into settling cases...the attorney/attorneys I work for know how to scare crackheads into paying their legal fees and getting suspended sentences instead of prison.

LOL, what do you do at your firm? I pretty much just do secretarial work, i.e., answering phones, copying papers, typing up letters and e-mails to judges, opposing cousel etc..Suites me well since its like 10 minutes away from campus and I get 9 an hour, very flexible hours too. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

BTW- OP keep us updated on your status, I forget what page it was on but when is your first court date?

if ur in undergrad still and work at a firm ur doin well. I do basically all of that + collect fees, interview clients on simple stuff where the attorney is not required to really say much (tickets for example), run to the court house to attempt to collect discovery on felonies when the courier forgets to, occasional emergency filing in the court house, and do a whole lot of reading forums when its slow. Wish I could do more but legally I cannot until I pass the bar.

Plus I like reading about all the interesting stuff I come across

I dont do any legal work however, unless preparing something for one of the attorneys is considered legal work //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
