I've been a troll for awhile now, but sadly enough I have never installed my own audio system. Im sure this diagram of is right, but i have a few other questions too. Could anyone spare time for a noob? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Setup:

SUBs: 2 12'' IDQ's running about 800rms altogether.

Amp: Kicker 650.4 + MB Quart PB1200.1D

Speakers: PG RSD 6.5 components

Question: Would it be ok to just run one long 1/0 power wire to the back and a distributor block with two 4awg outputs to both amps? Since im running only 800rms?

I greatly appreciate it!

1/0 to distro block, 4 gauge to amps would be perfect. Less $ too.
Thanks for the help. So 4awg would be enough just running 800-1200 rms?

Looks pretty good....you can use 4ga. for your ground on the kicker (same size as power wire)....what size fuses are your planning on using?....You're planning on putting those fuses close to the battery, right?
I honestly have no idea what fuse to use. Both amps have a 40A x 2 fuses. What size would be optimal? And yea the fuses will be run close to the battery.

that looks good, One thing, If possible, ground both amps to the same spot. Helps prevent ground loop noise. And as far as the fuse, Anything over Plus 10 % of the combined amps fuse rating, but no larger then 325. If its 80, use 100.

Thanks for the responses. Would I need a ground distributor block when grounding both amps in the same spots? Or can I just have 2 wires connecting in the same spot

fuses ratings are there for the wire size used.

1/0 = 200-300 amp fuse

4 ga = 80-100 amp fuse

fuse your power wire within 12-18 inches of the battery.

ground both amps to the same location.

1/0 to distro then 4 ga to each amp is fine

noob question here.... he would want to run the fused 1/0 for as long as possible, with the shortest amount of 4 awg to each amp right?

what i'm wondering is.. could he use a short piece of fused 1/0 from the battery to the distro (keeping this up in the engine compartment), then run longer pieces of 4awg from the distro to each individual amp (in trunk?)

I would do 10% less fusing than the combined amps. better for one fuse to blow than all 3 or 4 on the amp.

Yea..Ya see, the thing is, the fuse at the battery is there to potect the wire from shorts. The amps fuses protect the amps. But you need the bat fuse to be able to rate higher then the amps rating, but not over the supply wires rating. In this case 0 wire can be fused up to 325 amps. Hes only needing 80 amps, so 100 will be ok. A fuse rated from 80-325 will work.
