could low quality mp3s be bad for speakers?

could playing shitty quality (under 128 kbps) mp3's be bad for speakers. we're talking full tilt playing over time, or even for sessions of 30 min at a time full tilt. i know these low quality ones have crackles in them, but is there anything about the signal and the system trying to replicate this shit for song quality that could hurt the speakers?

no. kinda wonder why you'd play 'em at full tilt though.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

It's not the bitrate but the recording levels that make it shitty quality (talking about above 96).

If the material is recorded clipped, then yes, it can be damaging running it at full tilt. It has the same effect as running your amp clipped.

For example, this song has a 192 bit rate yet it is clipped and horrible quality. The bit rate plays a part but not anywhere near as much as the recording quality.

just a thought....128kbps sounds bad enough as is i avoid putting those tracks in my mixes as much as possible....this is all hypotetically speaking....at worst if there's crackling int he song that could be bad for the speakers...but if it isnt lipped then i guess its ok.....it just sounds like ***....

THE BITRATE DOES NOT CAUSE THE CRACKLING! God how many ****ing times do I have to say it??

You know what, I'll just show you a graph between 320kbps and 128kbps... the only difference is about 10dB loss above 16khz... basically, it's an inaudible difference:

Test songs are all the same, 15 second, clip taken from an mp3 recorded at 320kbps

128kbps:

Side by side shot between the two:

There is NO popping noise and NO noticeable difference between the two. If you want to listen to the difference, click these links:

i stand corrected....maybe its jst a scratch on the cd that causes the crackle now and then or im kinda of imaging it since the SQ is already noticable down..good to know though. thank you...

i don't know if you are downloading from a p2p or not, but alot of those just sound like a$$. i usually buy used cd's, rip'em and compress myself, then sell it back. costs an average of 5 $ or so per cd, but the results are worth it over a free, crappy sounding downloaded mp3. some of the downloaded ones aren't too bad, but i like doing it myself.

p2p is worthless these days

movies are all fake

**** videos are all the same 5 videos with 260,042,120,354,124,555 different titles, or drm-protected windows media or quicktime

the music downloads slow, and the record companies are devising all sorts of tricks to corrupt or add 0db white noise to the files

it's honestly worth the $$ to get a service like napster to go or rhapsody anymore. Almost everything you could ever possibly want, the day it's released, 192kbps wma's, and i think rhapsody starts at under $10 a month

someone just needs to create a headunit that works with windows media drm //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

or atleast make an ipod-controller style device for the new microsoft player

actually, now that i think about it, the new microsoft mp3 player will probably spark some support from electronics companies for in-car accessories

God forbid you ever cancel your rhapsody acount though. Bye-Bye all your music.
Torrents are where it's at if you want full albums and real high quality movies and nice ****.
i've been using limewire. really crappy lately. i have enough ****.

torrents are nice, but i hate having to base my music collection around what's available, rather than what i actually want

if you listen to rap or top-40 stuff, you're in luck

but i listen to a lot of obscure or older stuff that's just not seeded very often, if ever

not to mention using torrents, and staying on top of the newest seeds becomes really addictive, and you end up with tons of shit you didn't really even want before you saw that you could have it.........

it just becomes too time-consuming, and as good as it is, it's a pretty gay hobby

and if you just work, instead of trying to find torrents all the time, you can make the $6 a month to pay for a music service pretty easily

that's like a 2:30AM taco bell stop...... i think it's pretty fair, honestly

I know your pains there. I use emule when trying to find really rare music. I have found a ton of break beat and acid stuff on there that just doesn't exist anywhere else.

As far as the paid services, I will never use them. I can't stand the idea of not actually owning music that I pay for. And when I cancel my subscription all my music becomes unplayable? **** that.
