ok well i got an alpine v12 mrv-f357 and lately itll play fine then just cut out and come back on then cut out again and the power light will start flickering. i thought it was connections but it didnt help. so i take it apart and i notice alot of corrosion from when it gets hot. could corrosion cause this kind of problem? ima try and clean it all up and put it back together hopefully itll help out.

corrosion inside the amp? never seen it.. pics please?
well i would have taken pics but i already started cleaning it im buying some die electric cleaner at work and clean it up but most of it on on the sides of the board. kinda hard to explain but where the peice bolt to the metal i guess for heat reasons has some kind of white stuff on it so it wont get hot but. right there on the board along the sides. some other corrosion elsewear but ima try this and hope it works.

It could be a couple of issues. Any where that metal makes contact and heat is added, corrossion will form. Think of your battery terminals. It mainly has to do with the composition of the metal oxidizing. Lead is used on most soldered joints and will oxidize at higher temps. Parts used in cars tend to have a protective coating in the soldering process to prevent this. It is possible that your parts are oxidizing due to a poor solder joint. The poor joint will cause more resistance and more heat to pass through it. The other possibility is that it is not oxidation. Your capacitor can tend to fail and leak a lime like substance. Your amp will still work but have intermittant failures. Do you see any signs of the capacitors leaking?

The 'white stuff' could also be your thermal compound, which is used to mate the surfaces together.

so i take it apart and i notice alot of corrosion from when it gets hot.
Around the edge of the board, as in the FETs?

Maybe you've scorched the thermal interface material. Been clipping?

Meh, it's a guessing game without an accurate description or pic.

ok no i dont think it was clipping. and the white stuff i was talking about is somekind of thermal compoud so it wont get as hot. i cleaned it all from corrosion and it still stops when ever it wants so ima take it to some one. i got the amp for free and its a nice amp so ill spend some and just get it fixed
