So im new to the car audio world. I picked up 2 fosgate p2 12" 250 rms subs/ported box/and a supposed 1200 watt xplod amp for $40 at a scrap yard. One sub has been repaired, and one is starting to crack in the center.

The amp had been painted over, silver cover removed etc and from the look of the amp theres a simliar one to it which is a 1200 watt 400 rms @ 4ohm. Tonight i did some serious research and found that i had the sony XM-D9001GTR. Not the sony xplod XM-2002GTR.

specs

900W x 1 RMS into 2 ohms

500W x 1 RMS into 4 ohms

1300 watts max.

It doesnt hit as hard as i thought it would, but then again its just 2 250 rms subs. Sounds pretty good though for 40 bucks. I even nailed 4 gauge wire kit at the flea market for 25 bucks and had wire left over for the big 3 mod which helped everything.

ANYWAYSSSSSSSSS

Im looking for some "Budget" subs. Im not looking for something to rattle pictures in the house, but something that gets some attention when your gassing up the car and the subs are on.

This is in a beaters 4x4 truck for weekend fun. Im wanting to spend less then $100 for 2 subs and found some Hifonics HFX12D4 12" Inch 800 Watt Peak 400 Watt RMS Dual 4Ohm Car Subwoofer Sub (613815579090) | eBay

on ebay for 40 bucks apiece. 400 rms each, and if they last 6 months then cool. I doubt il even have this system 6 months. can i wire them in 2 ohm?

Any advice appreciated. I know i sound like im asking too much for the money but somethings gotta work a little better then what i have now. If this was going into my daily driver Id put some money into it.

I hear those subs are decent for the price. 2 dual4 ohm subs can't be wired to 2ohm. You will need dual 2ohm or single 4. Don't know if those subs are available in those coils though.

Why cant i wire them as 2 ohm? Will they grenade?

edit. Nvmd on that question. Im a idiot.

So id only still be getting 250 rms out of these. Hmm....Would one 900 rms sub hit harder then 2 of these?

because they are only made in dual 4 ohms,so either 1 ohm or 4 ohm is all they can be wires to.as for as your 4 gauge flee market kit, doubt its a true 4 gauge or even ofc wire.and last but not least also doubt the sony puts out 900 rms usually sony is not even half of what its rated at,if even that.so with that being said ,good luck.

I don't know if the Hifonics subs will be a huge come-up over the Rockfords. I suspect your problem is 1 that amp only does half rated power on a good day and 2. your box is inadequate.

IMO the best 50$ you could spend is a sheet of wood, some screws, glue, and caulking to build a better box.

From reviews on the amp, people have tested and say that it is putting out a true 900. But i still agree with you guys.

Any good links to write ups on custom boxs?

Would 1 15" sub around 500 rms sound better then the 2 12's? I found a L5 square kicker for 75 bucks locally.
