Controversial thread, unintentional Racism.

all i see it doing is giving opportunities to people who are less deserving. you complain because the schooling for a lot of these minorities is sub par compared to schooling for most whites. and for this we should give these people help and more opportunites to excell. but what reason do this give for those schools to improve? they can just continue with what they have been doing knowing that handouts are comming to them because they are below a certain level

Classic white arrogance imho.

White kids aren't given that same leeway and compensation and level of being tailored to because many white people subconsciously think whites should "just know better", whereas black people are sort of seen as a child to white america, the same way you would chastize a kid for stealing a candybar but not take it seriously, but if an adult did it would be a serious offense.

In my observation many whites see blacks as a class of people that white people decided should be equal, as opposed to it being inherently true.

So now whites as a culture try to appease them with things such as this, which are frankly more dangerously racist than overt shit like segregation in my opinion. Of course segragation was ridiculous and wrong, but it was also right up in everyone's face.

The test was not racist. Compensating black people for failing it was.

That money should go to improving the educational deficit that can be attributed to the difference in scores racially. Statistically there are vastly more blacks in the inner city than whites, and statistically the inner city's educational backbones are underfunded and inadequette. THATS the problem, not the ****ing test.

we will never be equal [/story]
as long as blacks have a BET, Ebony Magazine, their own award shows, keep calling one another ******s...we will not be equal...
Its like the economy, it will never be entirely stable (equal), but by using keynsian theory (like affirmative action in this example), we can artificially make it alot more satble than by simply leaving it alone

Agreed.

So, do yall feel that due to a bad education, individuals aspiring to become a Police Officer should be exepmt from knowing simple mathematics?

i personally think giving them $ for lack of motivation and or trying is stupid. Just b/c someone is from an inner city school doesn't mean that you can't learn to freaking add, subtract, multiply and divide. I mean seriously, if the issues were say advanced calc. or geometry, algebra trig etc etc, then i can understand it more. To give someone of an ethnicity $ b/c they can't multiply 15x22(just an example) then why whould they get money? I mean come on when did we all learn to mutliply and divide? I know I was taught that in like 2nd grade so it's like saying that b/c you can't remember 7yr old mathematics, let's give you $ and continue to cycle.

Thats where drastically new legislation needs to be implimented.. and its not getting done under Bush.

I dont know the details of what a police officer needs to know to do his or her job, but it doesnt seem absolutely nessecary, I'm sure those black people who failed can use a calculator, so in this situation, I think its OK for them to not know how to do long division. This, of course, wouldt apply for every occupation.

ohh no dont mention bush... that bring up ten million other debates about that idiot
I know, I'm sorry //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I was just saying, not trying to spur a bunch of side debates //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

its an ugly cycle, but lets just say a white kid from the inner city failed, would he get money....no, thats why giving money to them instead of the school systems is where they are going wrong.

One major thing I ask is that we keep bush or any other politics (besides clearly reasonable aspects) out of this. I want the topic to stay on topic and turn into another Crown Amps thread.

I will ask that all veering posts be deleted.

dont expect it to get done...ever...under anyone...until people stand up for what is right...
we have one party in this so called democracy...2 sub-parties..
I wouldnt be so sure, the democrats have some good education reform ideas, and if they do well these coming elections and we dont have divided gov, I think some good things could get passed. It wont be easy by any stretch...

gonna be impossible to keep politics out of something like this...i think it's 9/11 being brought up that needs to be avoided here.

the reason for this comes down to politics, ultimately
