The DOJ has given the Virginia Police Department $160,000 for distrobution to Black individuls who took the math part of the Virginia Beach Police Exam and failed. The number of Blacks who failed were so much greater than whites, that someone made a ruckuss about it. The DOJ ruled that the Police Department was guilty of unintentional racism, due mainly in part because the Mathematics section required adding, multiplication and long division. The money is to be distrobuted as compensation and the test will be modified with such sections taken out in order to better suit Black individuals.

What say ye on this particular subject? What do you think about the "unintentional racism" call that the Department of Justice made? I don't have a link to an article, but I should have one soon.

Discuss.

Well the problem is deeper than this "unintended racism". It starts from inner-city education in areas which are predominantly black. We shouldn't taylor our society to be "equal" to this poor level of education, but do something to improve that level. Easier said than done I understand...

And "unintended racism" is the wrong words IMO, its more "unintended discrimination"

What a bunch of bullsh*t. They should just hand them their f's and send them the f*ck home. There are too many double standards in this fricken country.
And what does that do? It perpetuates low income among those blacks, which perpetuates them living in the innercity, which perpetuates them getting poor education, which, again, perpetuates low income... its a vicious cycle that needs to be addressed instead of "sending them the fuck home"

I dont like people like you

ok so you'd rather change the rules and lower the qualifications for the people who are getting the job? I'm sure there were white people who failed the test and will not be given a second chance. I agree that the problem needs to be fixed in the schools but if these guys failed the test then I say they are out of luck. They can go sign uo for classes to help them retake the test in the future and possible pass. I dont agree with giving handouts like this to the people who failed the same test other people passed just because of their ethnicity.

If the doj offered some sort of program to help EVERYONE who failed i could agree.

as long as you keep supporting actions like this there will always be a double standard in this country and we will never be truly equal!!

As a short term solution, yes. Its basically affirmative action. No its not an ideal solution, but there is little choice IMO. No, its not fair to those white people, same with college admissions, minorities with lower scores get in ahead of whites with higher scores. There is no simple solution, both sides have a right to complain.

What do you think public schools have been doing for a really long time...

this is what happens when your govt spends all of your tax dollars on defense and very little on education...

I disagree, since affirmative action began in the 60's, we have come MUCH closer to equality, thats the entire point of it, giving a leg up to those without the same opportunities as whites. No its not entirely "fair", but neither is growing up with less opportunity than whites. By NOT doing this, it wont make us more equal, it will only expand the gap.

i know school's and other things of that nature and i dont agree with that either. all i'm saying is that they should offer programs to help bring those people up to the standardized level. dont judge on a curve.

if you fail its ur own fault, why are we giving them $$$
Maybe because its NOT their fault they have received a lower standard of education than whites...
