Well I could justify spending up to $300 on a sub if that would make a difference. Is there a different sub that would work better in a sealed box with ~400W? I just don't think I'm willing to go back to ported or re-wire my car for a more powerful amp. If not i'll just stay with my current setup.
Which Type-R are you using? The latest generation?

If you are firm on sealed, there are subwoofers that can perform better than others at low end extension when sealed, but the difference may not be as drastic as desired. Some easy guidelines for you to shop by will be: Low Fs, high Xmax, Higher QTS. These are NOT facts or truths, just guidelines. If you find something that you think may fit your criteria, I can answer any questions about it.

The biggest obstacle would be space. That is why I asked what his actual space/size limitations are. From there we can look at a few options to see what would give him the best results with in the given space.

Well, we'll team up and figure something out for this guy. Sound good? Kay. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Works for me, I'm sure something can be done in some way. Just need some measurements to see what we got to work with.

You have 1.64ft3 of space...

I would do a single 10 ported to be honest. Tons of options out there including the one you have should work. You could step up to a 12 sealed but that is to small for a 12 ported in most cases.

Do a precision port with a single 10" see how you like it and only tape the precision port together so you can adjust tuning. You can also up power later on which would help considerably with output.

Could also do a 8" ported or a couple sealed.

How about an RE SRX 12"? How that be for a sealed box? Says 0.75cu on their site, would 1.25cu be too big?
Is there a reason you want to stay away from ported? I think you would have much better results(according to what your saying you want) going that direction.

If you use a precision port you just build the box as you would a sealed enclosure and cut an extra hole for the port.

I just don't think you will get what your looking for out of a low powered system in a trunk in that small space with a single sealed 12.

A single 10" sub with a 3" precision port around 13.5(ish) long would be a nice setup for your space.
