I have been thinking this more and more..I've been reading up on it and i really think its somthing that I would be interested in doing. I understand what it is, but I don't physically know how to hook everything up.

Its kinda pointless for me to amplify my rear speakers, so i was thinking of going active.

Correct me if I am wrong but, Is this how it gets setup?

The amp is a kicker zx650.4, and my components are diamond audio hex S600's. On the kicker amp, where the settings are, there are two sections labeled amp 1 and amp 2. Each one has gain, crossover, and bassboost. So if i am right with how I think its supposed to be setup, I can control my tweets/midbass seperatly.

Also, do yall think my 7800 pioneer will do it well, or should i go for an 880prs or an eclipse cd7100?

Am i even going in the right direction?

While the 880 has a great onboard Xover, the quality control issues I've seen with them would be enough to make me think twice...

I'd look for a comparable Eclipse or older Alpine unit.

So I was right, and this will let me play with the fade and things on my deck..Also should i worry about Blowing my components?

but you could "fade" back on the fronts if you wanted your tweeters to be getting less power, on the fly anyways.

Turning the gain down would also be an option.

alright cool thanks guys. Got most of my basic questions answered. i just think my HU i have right now may be lacking. For this setup, how do you guys think an alpine 9857 would do??

At least on my HU (9835), in 3way mode... there is NO fade.

I don't mean to post hijack but how will an Eclipse 8454 work for a two way active like he wants to run his (off a 4 channel amp; Sundown 100.4)?

if you have an amp for all your speakers why wouldn't you just use an audiocontrol eqx or similar?

screw the hu's internal stuff-

i'm active in my mercedes with the stock deck for the record
