confused about monoblock settings

I have a fusion monoblock which i'm running two 12 kicker comp v'rs. I have a pioneer head unit with the subwoofer rca outputs which i have connected to the monoblock. But the amp has an rca input selection switch which has the option full and lp. I know i should have it on low pass for the subs but the amp does'nt seem to perform any where near as good as when this switch is on full. Because ive used the rca's from the subwoofer output on the headunit is it ok to run the amp with this switch on full as the head unit has already filtered out the high stuff? or is there still some full getting through which might damage the subs? it seems to sound better on full.

yes there is three adjustments (turn type with small flat screwdriver) one for bass boost, one for gain/input, one for low 55-300hz and one for sub sonic 33-80hz and the rca input switch lp or full.

What is the best way to set this up? ie which adjustment first and in which order? there must be a way of doing this properly.

Turn the LPF to where you think 80hz is. Turn the switch to LPF. Turn subsonic to around 15-20 hz. You really don't have to use it with a sealed box, but it also shouldn't hurt. Set the gain as per tutorial.

If the amp's set to full pass, then the sub should get whatever signal the HU is sending.

It sounds like the LPF is lower in your amp than your HU, if the sounds changes after you switch the amp to LP.

ok thanks will try that. the head unit is the Pioneer DEH-P8600MP and has alot of built in filter adjustments for the subwoofer channel (rca's) ranging from 50hz up to 200hz, then there is slope adjustment, bass boost adjustment, loud on/off and fm signal adjustment I have tried experimenting with it all but with the amp on lp I get quite good low bass but lacks any of the punchy tight higher bass, and when the amp switch is on full it sounds good in the higher punchy notes but lacks a bit of low bass.

There is no vocals coming through so I take it the head unit subwoofer output is filtering this out is that right.

Personally I would set the LPF alittle higher than 80hz with it being sealed maybe around 100-125hz. but that is just me.
Unless you have weak mids and don't care about subbass being anchored up front, I don't see why you would want a crossover point over 100hz for your sub.

ok should i set the head unit subwoofer crossover adjustment at max first, ie select say 80hz and then turn it up to +5 and then set the gains on the amp or should the headunit crossover be set in the middle first ie at 0 (I think the range goes from -5 to 0 then up to +5) and when setting the amp gains should the headunit have everything off ie loud and fm input bass boost ect..
