Cone Area Lovers!

ok where are all the guys who are fans of using big cone area? reason im asking this is because im puzzled on what to do as far as an bassrace setup goes. who all like the sound of lots of cone area sealed in Diamond shaped walls or any type of wall that isnt FLAT. basically walls like Randy,Tommy,Pipo all those guys. also what are the pros and cons of going with tons of cone area? only thing i can think of is just the cost!

Example: would you guys rather do 16 12's sealed in an diamond or 8 12s ported in an diamond? fo course power and subs would all be the same.

you know ive talked to people who have heard and sat in tommy and Frankie rio cars, but they all say that tommys move more air/ feels louder and i think this is the perfect example of the question i have, because both cars are doing around the same db numbers but Frankie use half the subs and ported!

so is it the Cone Area and extra motor that makes up for the lack of efficency that sealed gives?

Hopefully you guys can shed some light on my ?

Also feel free to post pics of LOTSSSS of setups with tons of cone area sealed!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
do you want to move air or put up big numbers?

Dante puts up huge numbers with a single 18" while Team Edge puts up similar numbers but uses a shit ton of cone area

^^^^ Was wondering the same thing.

Also the guy on here w/ the 2 BL 18s, 10 or 12" port, and in the cherokee moves a ton of air. Granted he puts up good numbers but have seen many setups put up much better numbers without moving that much air.

Truness,i think your talking bout millertime1028 on here.if so ive seen his truck on the TL in person and hes doin a 152.1@36hz with only 2200-2300 watts.box is design is sick on that thing.i myself have seen a few louder setup not move as much air but thats just because they were peaking at 45-55hz.tuning plays a HUGE roll in how the air is displaced.also how the ports are preloading

I would say the main thing to consider is money... money money money. For example... 2 spl oriented 15's cost lets say 500 each, rated at 2 k apiece, ported with sufficient power to get to rms, another 800 ish. To hit the same number sealed you may need 4 or 6 15's with sufficent power to run them all of a sudden your getting a second mortgage for audio gear. I love sealed boxes, but for most people to hit numbers on a TL, they got ported 1 for cost, 2 for simplicity. If you want to go selaed with lots of cone area go for it, but don't count on winning a lot of spl contests, because your cone area/power will put you up against the biggest boys at the comp, and they will more than likely be ported, and beating you.

Each type of setup serves its own purpose, cant really say one is better than the other.
If you want loud with cone area, buy my van. Its got 24 15" Ascendant Chaos. Videos in sig.

Ya, better is personal choice, I prefer sealed, but I dont compete either. I imagine if I wanted to seriously compete, I would go ported for sure.

A little selfless promotion from G-monk... But seriously the OP might as well get that second mortgage he's talking about and buy your van. Its a rarity that a vehicle as loud as yours goes on the market and i've never seen one that can be driven daily with the number yours is putting up.

in a sealed enclosure you lose a ton of force coming from the rear of the sub....

every action has an equal or opposite reaction...

basically the boom coming out the front is the same as the boom comin out the back.... so i prefer to channel that boom through a port.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ps.... u need moar powa for sealed unless its huge.... port area allows for the subs to unload freely.... obviously dependant on port area.

I got all the cone area and almost 7 square FEET of port. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

it's all in the port in my opinion. i have 1 15" pioneer premier in a 8 net cub box. its hitting 145.4 TL and in my league theres a guy with a wall with 2 15" rockford T2's in 14 cubes hitting 154's mine is tuned to 36hz burped at 43 his is ~52 burped at around 43 as well. mine sounds louder and makes more shit rumble than his and he has 8-9 dB on me.
