Computer subwoofer installation

Way back when I was into SQ I considered this. Getting bass up front was a big deal, with people putting 10's and 12's in the dash. For low-mid volume SQ type listening. They seem like a convenient package.
It sure is

so, your telling me what my sub sounds like in my house when you have never been there, sat in my theater room, heard any audio at all from my sub? how can you say that or make that assumption? now your talking out of your ***....its like me saying i love the colors of magenta you painted your entire attic and inside the closet in which you set your gay ***. i have never seen your house, been to your house, nor would i want to. you are not the one person that knows how i actually hear sound and what sounds good to me. everyone hears a little differently and hear different tones better than others.as far as explaining anything, what do you want explained. the things have been done by others with good results for them so that would be explanation enough. if asked more about what the specs for the subs used and enclosure sizes would require explanation but no one has ever asked about it. as far as i know this is a car audio forum and not a HT forum. you seem to be one of the know-it-all guys that will not want to learn anything from another person when its a little different. you must be the audiophile god of the world..
If I was more active in this forum, I'd put this as my sig. You said what I felt. How could you possibly tell us what it sounds like when you're not hearing it? I do agree that there are a lot of times, where HT inside a car WOULD sound like ****. But like I said in my last posts, IN MY CASE IT DOESNT!

i bet there are a lot that have done it but do not want to say because of the harsh criticism that is given by the bullies in this forum. when it all breaks down a sub is designed to produce bass in any area it is in. the intensity will differ by the size of sub,the power used, the enclosure used and the area in which it will play and how close you are to it. its thinking outside of the box. many in this forum are only looking through a peep hole outside the box. there are many factors and only some look at certain ones. I.e. "computer subs will never sound good in a car".

I took my computer sub outside and plugged it into a outside wall socket. Still sounded good in the wide-open Earth.

i am in agreement. use the sub if you like it. there is no reason to not if it works for what you need. congrats on thinking outside of the box. there are things that can make the sub sound better. that would be in the placement of the sub.

I am using it, works GREAT! Perfect amount of low end for my personal taste, my door speakers balance the sound out very nicely.

HT can work in cars and vice versa. Is it a good idea? Usually, no.
What you're doing works... But would I recommend doing it..? No.
I agree, it's usually not a good idea. But it's not like it's hurting anything. I wouldn't recommend it - if you have the money to buy car audio. If not, there's no harm in doing it.

it all depends on the end user wants and not what the "all-knowing" persons of this forum want. no, you may not recommend it but it does work for the OP, thats all that matters. its pretty bad when others are telling what something IS going to sound like without being there, that's just plain STUPID. maybe different wording should be used. sure its unconventional but it works and thats the bottom line. it works for what they need.

on the 9500 tip...what environment should this sub be in then if you are all knowing about them?

i mean since i have one in my HT setup sounding amazing, where should it go? if in had my car in my theater room would that work better than an enclosure in the room as the 9500 is ONLY a car audio application speaker?

for the ppl that say car speakers dont belong in the home.
Gotham® - g213-GLOSS - Home Audio - Powered Subwoofers - JL Audio
look a little more into that sub...its not an actual car audio subwoofer. it looks the same as the w7 sub but it is nothing like it. that sub can move up to 4". its unreal. that would blow the mind of the whitedragon and beat up his kidneys from across the room. i have experienced the fathom and that was just plain sick as ****. totally different drivers though. handle crazy amounts of power. been tested up to 3800w with an excursion of around 4"...just ******* nuts bro......want even better. check out the focal home theater BE setups....******* wow...all i can say....worth every single penny if i had the $$$..

I kinda figured they were different drivers but jl doesnt give any specs on them. Yeah only if I had the money.

yeah, that is one thing that jl does not give much info about the home theater subs. i have had the luxury of being on a tour of JL when i was last in FL. Very nice facility and its like the cleanest manufacturing plant i have ever been too. they are very meticulous of how clean their work areas are when working on these subs. super bada$s.
