Running front splits of a 4 channel amp

Hi,

I have just bought a new car that i need to move my stereo into.

My last car had my Alpine Type X pro front splits and type X reference rear splits running off an Alpine PDX-F4 4 channel amp.

I have read in the past that some people run 4 channels to one set of fronts? Do you think it would be worth while just running the rears off the head unit and the 4 channel for the fronts?

I can't find a thread on what i need to do to have it setup this way as i'm not sure what it's called.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Alex

OK, i've had another look and the crossover has 2 inputs so i can "bi-amp" (if this is what its called) the front splits.

How do i go about running the wiring? Do i just run a single set of RCA's from the head unit front pre out and then split into the 4 channels on the amp? Then run the wiring from the 4 channels of the amp to the speakers?

Does this bypass the crossover? so i need to use the amp or head unit to run my low/high pass cut offs?

It's called running active.First you need an amp or processor that has crossover points that go from around 3-5000hz.

The tweeters will be on the front channel, and the mids on the rear.

Sounds like you have a passive crossover, which actually wastes amp power by heat and the crossover itself.

Active give you more control, but with the need of an external crossover/processor.

And Yes,I'd do that in the front and have the rears off the headunit.

If you use the passive, then the front out from the amp will go to the tweeter input on the passive, rear to the mid.

without processing or an active capable amplifier (neither of which you have right now) you won't gain anything by going to a bi-amp front. it won't be any louder nor sound any better.

you would be better off bridging the four channel amp to the fronts and running the rears of the HU if you fade to front so you cannot even tell the rears are on.

Thanks for the info,

Could you possibly post a link up of the type of processor i need. I'm don't want to change the amp.

Do you still use the crossovers when you have a processor and run active or does the processor just go straight to the speakers?
