headunit is a http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_65909_Kenwood-DDX470.html

So I hooked up the RCAS though the input on the dd-1, turn it to track one and begin turning it up.. after a while I get signal and then 40hz detect, but I never get distortion through the whole setup of this.. I noticed my door speakers start making a popping sound and a horrible hiss when turned almost all the way up to max. doing this again I turned the subwoofer to +10 ( max on this unit ) and got it to clip at 33 out of 35. Again.. door speakers sounding horrible while this is happening.

anyhow, I go to set the gain on the amp, put he red into + and the black into - on the amp and I have x-over set to max and gain to minimum. ( amp is a ppi 1800.1 ) I play track 5 for the loudest overall system.. I still have to have the gained turned up almost all the way ( over 3/4ths ) before I get distortion..

what the hell am I doing wrong? something just doesn't seem right. I dunno what im doing wrong.. I read the manual several times, followed what people said about subwoofer level on the HU.. and even tried watching videos on youtube of people doing it.. I am not getting same results. I am not sure what to do... anyone else have trouble doing theirs?

hrm... it's very difficult to get to that headunit lol.. you have to remove the entire center console just to get to the hu to an accessible state.

any advice on what to do in this case? yea, it' has the bose and onstar that I wanted to keep for now so they are ran off the hu power.. I do plan to upgrade later on but just getting them set was the biggest goal at this time.

My Clarion NX501 didn't distort either. 40/40 for volume. When it came to setting the sub I went to 38/40 just cause and set the gain and got distortion as expected. I ran mine on best sound quality track for the woofer.
