Computer Problem, help?

hey, i was trying to fix a friends comp. has old windows 98, and was having a invalid disk error, so i made a windows 98 boot disk and copied over the SYS files aka SYS C: so now it boots flashes the windows 98 boot screen but the goes to a c:> prompt, i kno theres a compand for it to continue or somthig like that but i can't remember, can anyone help me solve this?

upgrade to xp or *nix or something. That OS is 7 years old for crying out loud

if you're getting an invalid disk error, something's wrong with the disk...

what happens when you run win.com? error message or what?

you got it Fu(ked up.

Here is what you got to do.

Go to the command prompt.

go to c:\winodws

so it will look like

C:\winodws\

type: del win.com

restart and use a floppy to load the cd-rom drivers

then you might have to restart after you load the drivers

go to command prompt again and get the cd-rom drive letter as the current drive as such:

D:\ if that is the drive letter and have the win98 disk in

type: setup /iv /im /is /ie

continue with the install and install in the same directory as the old installation of 98 such as c:windows

I work at a computer repair shop and if you have problems with the obave steps let me know cause i got this thing that i made that uses a batch file to setup up everything for u. let me know if you want it.

Invalid disk error is something in the bios, physical problem with the drive or a cable unplugged

^ exactly. try running scandisk or chkdsk

I wouldn't del win.com...rename it...I once was having some problems so I had deleted it and copied a new one from a different computer and different version of windows...had to "debug" it to allow on my 'older' version of dos.

and if you have the windows install CD, and your bios can boot off CD, just do that...
