So i bought a laptop today and it had BSOD

It had windows vista on there but the person didnt have the disk anymore. So i used my windows xp iso and get it up and running.

Now its working

But

I cant find any of the drivers to finish it off.

Its a compaq presario V6000. When i search the model number i get the 6000 series of laptops but all the drivers ive tried dont seem to work. Wondering if anyone could give me some advice..

Thanks in advance

If you have a legit copy of xp, you should be able to just go to windows update and get them there. If it's pirated, ***** to be you

Edit: s uck s got starred out for some reason

Put vista or 7 on it, not all drivers are XP capable.

When I dual booted my old cpu, audio drivers wouldn't works and other common things on xp. Reboot in vista or 7, worked fine

I'm too drugged up on my meds to write a full paragraph..but on the bottom of the computer there should be a sticker that gives you the EXACT model number of the computer (eg; 6752us) or something like that...when you find that number then you can go to compaqs website and get the drivers. if you are still stuck tomm i will help you out.

well i guess that could be it, but that would really **** since i dont have a legit copy of vista or 7

There probably aren't XP drivers made, so you'll have to use 7 or Vista.
please dont say that lol

switch to linux
Plan on giving it away to my cousin, i have linux on my desktop //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

if i cant figure it out i will be hittin u up tomorrow

thanks

what drivers do you need?
only driver i really need is the one for the modem, screw the rest of the stuff. Only thing its gonna be used for is surfing the web and writing papers.

Thanks for the advice guys, and if u got any other ideas send my way

That modem should be fairly generic to that brand, the website should have a driver for you. While I am not familiar with that particular line of comps, I concur that if it came with vista, you need vista/7 to make it work, dont expect xp to be 100% on there

dang, thats not good.

Format, re-install, install drivers, update windows. That will eliminate any softaware issues, if it still messes up after that then you have a hardware issue.
cant get online without the drivers for the modem tho.

Look for the vista driver then modify it to work on XP might take some time. Might be able to find a forum where someone has already done the grunt work for you. but, you might think about just giving him a laptop with lenux on it.
