Computer Help!!!!!!!!

Torrents are much safer than Limewire. At least you can see what you are getting and what other people have to say about that item on torrent sites.
Megaupload and rapidshare ftw. MU account is 15 bucks for 2 months, and RS is like $30 for 3 months. I kinda like MU better because RS limits your download usage. I think somethin like 25 GB per 5 days...that's just not enough.

For some reason my computer clock went to military time. how to fix this??

Control Panel> Date, Time, Language and Regional Options > Regional Options > Next to the box that shows your selected language click Customize>Time tab> In the Time Format box enter "h:mm:ss:tt"

(assuming it is XP, not sure if Vista is different.)

I got one like that when I was using a program to watch ufc fights.. But it constantly changed my wallpaper to that statement.. It was annoying, but between ad aware and Super Anti-Spyware, and McAfee, one of them took care of it eventually. What I cannot figure out is what the hell it did with my screen savers!!!!

This one deleted my wallpapers.

It is either the Smitfraud that someone mentioned earlier or one of those Antivirus2008, xp antivirus 2009....etc Those fake antivirus ones are annoying as shit.

I have fixed probably 4-6 computers with this problem. The first thing I always do is Run > msconfig > go to the startup tab and make sure you know everything that is running on startup. Once you shut it off from there, it shouldn't pop up and slow everything down as soon as you boot up windows.....

Next thing I would do is RUN> services.msc Find a list of services that should be running and see if there are a bunch extra. If there are, I would go ahead and reformat, because it is hard to remove a ton of services. I have seen some of them switch back to automatically run after I had changed it to disabled. They are really finicky.

Last thing I usually do is remove all of the registry keys that are associated with the program.

Run> regedit

Alot of websites are going to tell you a specific name that the Fake Antivirus uses for registry keys, but in my experience I have seen them be named just random letters. Example: rxpkmrisq or just something that doesn't make any sense

It should be listed somewhere under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\

One friend of mine had it for long enough, that it denied access to my computer, control panel....etc and it also started erasing icons on the start menu.

If it ends up being bad enough, you should just back up whatever you need and do a fresh reformat.

My advice...

1. Reinstall

2. Get all updates/drivers installed, get everything you use installed and everything looking the way you want it

3. Hard drives are cheap, get a $10-15 40gb and install as a slave

4. Use a drive image program to copy the fresh image of your drive to the spare drive

After that you will never have a problem again. If you get a virus just swap drives, then...

1. Hook the infected main drive as slave

2. Format

3. Copy the good image

4. Swap back in the fresh drive as master

And of course use a seperate partition to store music, movies, programs, etc so when you format those aren't deleted

It is a rather simple method, but I do an even simpler one(to me). I didn't recommend this cause it is a bit more complicated than a simple ghost image once you start adding drivers, etc.

I use nlite to make a custom windows install disc that includes all updates, drivers and programs I use. I take out all the crap I dont need like extra languages, windows tour, outlook, search, etc and set it for unattended install, then use a rewritable cd/rw disc and make a bootable disc

By using a cd/rw I can add drivers and other stuff to it and just write over the old one. XP normally wont fit on a cd/rw disc but once you take out some of the useless crap it is much smaller in size

Once set up it takes about 15 minutes to do a complete fresh install of Windows XP Pro SP3 with everything I need and nothing I dont:)
