Component Speaker set up and questions

I currently have JL VR comps up front and coax in the rear, 6.5" all the way around. I want to get rid of the rear speakers, as I like the way things sound better without them.

My subs are JL Audio 12w6v2's (2 of them) and a 1000/1 JL amp.

My mids amp is a JL 300/4

Keep in mind I am sticking with nothing but JL here, flame away, but I like em', and have since way back in the day!

Quesiton 1- Would the ZR line that is coming out overpower my subs, meaning, are they more meant to couple with the w7's? Should I just go ahead and get the XR 6.5" comps set as a better match for my subs?

Question 2- In my front speaker location, there is about 6-8" of space between the speaker and the actuall speaker grill/door pannel. It seems to me that this would allow a lot of the sound to escape the car, and end up in the actuall door pannel. My stock speakers had a rubber surround around them that butted up to the acutuall grill on the door. SHould I do this with my comp set as well? Or would it be better to build a baffle that extends the speakers out to the door pannel's speaker grill... or be just fine the way it is?

I will bridge the 300/4 to 150 watts x2, so the power will be there for no matter what speakers I go with.

I'm not an expert, but if you have 6-8" of space between the speaker and the grill you are losing sound. The main concern there is that you will get poor imaging. I would get a mount to minimize that space. try it an see if it sounds better, which it should, if you don't like put it back the way it was.

Just to make sure i get this right. Instead of the speaker being mounted on the door pannel iw was mounted on the grill with a rubber surround? Like I said before, just play with it. try different mountings and see which one you will like the best, after all you will the one listening to them.

I don't know what I was thinking when I said the above comment on bridging the amp. I forgot that bridging means MONO.

So I guess I will need to get a 300/2 to get full power.

Wrong, the speaker was mounted to the door frame, not the pannel. Then there was a rubber surround that was connected the speaker to the door pannel grill.

For all you installers, it is a VW Jetta. If that helps any.

No, I'm prett sure you can bridge the amp. But because it's a 4 channel amp you will be pulling more current than if you went with a 2 channel. The 4 channel should work ok, just make sure the impedence matches.

it's pretty hard to overpower a properly installed W6v2 with any set of mids... and it's always good to have more headroom...

I would say go as high as you can if you don't have a budget in the JL line if you *have* to use JL ... much better high end out there on a $$$ ratio but i can understand the attachment to a brand.

I know I can bridge the amp, but you can't bridge and get stereo can you? Remember, these are for front component speakers.

Is it even worth upgrading from the VR to XR?

Any suggestions on the upgrade? Should I get rid of the rears, and upgrade to XR comps? Or wait for the ZR Comps to come out?
